It is a subtropical vine and member of the family Cucurbitaceae along with gourds, melons and cucumbers. It is a dark green, ridged and tapering pretty vegetable. It has white pulp with white seeds embedded in spongy flesh. English common names include angled luffa, Chinese okra, ridged gourd, sponge gourd, ribbed loofah, silky gourd, ridged gourd, and silk gourd.
